One person was killed and a driver is still at large following an early-morning crash involving a pedestrian in Takoma Park on Monday, according to police.

An investigation was launched after a pedestrian was fatally struck shortly after 1:15 a.m. on June 3 in the 1100 block of University Boulevard, investigators say.

Upon arrival, officers found a man lying in the roadway with a head injury. He was rushed to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

An autopsy conducted by the Office of the Medical Examiner in Washington, DC determined that the injuries sustained were likely caused by a vehicle, which fled the area.

The preliminary investigation by detectives has determined that a westbound vehicle hit the pedestrian and fled the scene on Lebanon St. into Prince George’s County.

According to the department, the suspect vehicle is believed to be a black Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Extended cab pick-up truck that was manufactured between 1999 and 2006.

Detectives are still in the process of identifying the victim, who was described only as being a Hispanic man in his 30s or 40s, who is 5-foot-6, 150 pounds with a short goatee. He was wearing a light blue t-shirt and dark blue sweatpants when he was struck.

The hit-and-run remains under investigation.
